PRESENTATIONS WE TREAT

Types of Anorexia & Related Conditions

Anorexia nervosa presents differently for each individual. The Renew Center treats the full spectrum of restrictive eating disorders and co-occurring conditions, tailoring every program to the client's unique presentation.

Heart 1 Icon.png

Restrictive Anorexia

The classic presentation of anorexia nervosa — severe caloric restriction driven by an intense fear of weight gain and a profoundly distorted body image. Treatment rebuilds a healthier relationship with food, hunger, and self-worth.

Heart 2 Icon.png

Atypical Anorexia Nervosa

Meets all anorexia criteria except low body weight. Individuals may be in a higher weight range while still experiencing extreme restriction and fear of eating Often under-diagnosed and under-treated.

Heart 3 Icon.png

Anorexia with Bingeing/Purging

A subtype involving cycles of severe restriction alternating with binge episodes followed by purging behaviors. Combines the cognitive distortions of anorexia with the behavioral cycles of bulimia, requiring integrated treatment.

Heart 4 Icon.png

Orthorexia

An obsessive fixation on eating only 'pure' or 'correct' foods that significantly impairs quality of life. While not a formal DSM diagnosis, orthorexia shares the rigidity and anxiety of anorexia and responds well to the same therapeutic approaches.

Heart 5 Icon.png

Body Dysmorphic Disorder

A co-occurring condition marked by obsessive preoccupation with perceived physical flaws. In anorexia, this manifests as a severely distorted perception of body size that persists despite objective evidence, driving continued restriction.

Heart 6 Icon.png

Co-Occurring Depression & Anxiety

Anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any mental health disorder, partly due to the high rate of co-occurring depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. The Renew Center's integrated model addresses all conditions simultaneously.

OUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES

6 Evidence-Based Therapies for Anorexia

Our strength-based methodology blends advanced Eastern and Western therapeutic approaches to treat anorexia comprehensively, addressing the cognitive distortions, emotional pain, trauma, and physiological damage of the disorder while clients remain in their real-world setting.

1 Icon.webp

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT is one of the most evidence-based treatments for anorexia. It identifies and restructures the distorted beliefs driving food restriction, including negative body image, perfectionism, and fear of weight gain, replacing them with healthier, flexible thinking patterns.

2 Icon.webp

Interpersonal Therapy

Anorexia is frequently rooted in interpersonal pain, conflict, loss, or social isolation. IPT targets these relationship dynamics directly, helping clients build the emotional connections and communication skills that support lasting recovery.

3 Icon.webp

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT equips clients with the emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills needed to interrupt the rigid restriction cycles of anorexia. Mindfulness practices help clients reconnect with hunger cues and body signals without fear.

4 Icon.webp

Rapid Reduction Hypnosis

Dr. Palmer's signature method provides fast relief from the deep-seated belief systems and past experiences that fuel anorexic behaviors. It rapidly re-patterns trauma-based emotional responses and the core beliefs driving self-starvation.

5 Icon.webp

Integrative Holistic Methods

Recovery from anorexia requires healing the whole person, mind, body, and spirit. The program blends systemic and trauma-informed methods with Eastern modalities including mindfulness, somatic work, and energy practices.

6 Icon.webp

Functional Medicine & Nutrition

Anorexia causes significant physiological damage. The center coordinates with leading physicians using brain diagnostics, IV Nutrient Therapy, and nutritional testing to support medical stabilization alongside psychological healing.
