ALCOHOL ABUSE & ALCOHOLISM TREATMENT

- OUR APPROACH
Why Alcoholism Takes More Than Willpower and More Than Detox
Detox removes alcohol from your body. It does not remove the emotional pain, cognitive habits, relationship damage, or neurological conditioning that kept the drinking going. Without addressing those root causes, relapse isn't a matter of willpower. It's the predictable outcome of an untreated condition. Our program goes beyond detox to treat the full picture of alcohol use disorder.
Personalized treatment built around your specific drinking patterns, triggers, and history.
Medical coordination for safe withdrawal management when clinically indicated.
Evidence-based therapy, including CBT and DBT, proven most effective for alcohol use disorder.
Treatment for co-occurring depression, anxiety, and trauma driving alcohol use.
Individual, group, and family therapy sessions, online and in-person.
Long-term relapse prevention for lasting sobriety and a rebuilt life.

PRESENTATIONS WE TREAT
Alcohol Use Disorder Presentations We Treat
Alcohol use disorder exists on a spectrum, from harmful use to severe dependence, and we treat every point on it, along with the mental-health conditions that so often travel with it. According to NIAAA, Nearly 28 million Americans ages 12 and older met the criteria for AUD in the past year, yet only about 7.6% received any treatment. If you've been carrying this alone, that gap is exactly why.
Alcoholism / Alcohol Dependence
The most severe form of alcohol use disorder: compulsive drinking despite serious physical, relational, financial, and occupational consequences, with withdrawal symptoms when not drinking and rising tolerance over time. This is a medical condition that deserves comprehensive clinical care, not shame.
Binge Drinking & Problem Drinking
Episodic heavy drinking, defined by the NIAAA as roughly four or more drinks for women or five or more for men within about two hours. Around 57.9 million Americans reported binge drinking in the past month. Even without daily use, it carries serious risk and often escalates into alcohol use disorder.
Alcohol Withdrawal & Medical Considerations
Alcohol withdrawal can be medically serious, including the risk of seizures and delirium tremens in severe dependence. The Renew Center works with physicians to manage withdrawal safely, before and during outpatient psychological treatment, whenever it's clinically indicated.
Alcohol Abuse (Harmful Use)
A pattern of drinking that keeps causing real problems, including legal trouble, dangerous situations, and missed obligations, even without full dependence. Early intervention at this stage can stop it from progressing to severe alcoholism.
High-Functioning Alcoholism
Keeping up professional performance and social life while drinking heavily can create the false impression that everything is under control. High-functioning drinkers often struggle to recognize the seriousness of their alcohol use because daily responsibilities still get done.
Co-Occurring Depression, Anxiety & Trauma
AUD has extremely high rates of co-occurring depression, anxiety, PTSD, and trauma, and in many cases the drinking began as self-medication. About 21.1 million U.S. adults had a co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorder in the past year (SAMHSA, 2024). Our model treats all of it together for long-term outcomes.
OUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES
Evidence-Based Therapies for Alcohol Use Disorder
Our strength-based approach uses proven therapies for alcoholism and alcohol use disorder. We focus on unhealthy thoughts, emotional pain, related mental health concerns, and brain reward patterns that fuel compulsive drinking, while helping you recover within your everyday environment.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT is the most evidence-supported psychological treatment for alcohol use disorder. It identifies and rewrites the automatic thoughts and behavioral patterns behind drinking, including drinking to cope with stress, anxiety, pain, or boredom, and builds coping strategies that last.
Interpersonal Therapy
Alcohol use disorder devastates relationships through deception, distance, volatility, and broken trust. IPT addresses both the relational damage caused by drinking and the patterns, including conflict, isolation, and grief, that have driven it, building genuine connection as an alternative.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
The emotional dysregulation and distress intolerance at the core of AUD respond powerfully to DBT's skill framework. You learn to manage the urge to drink without acting on it, tolerate difficult emotions without alcohol, and build a life worth living in recovery.
Rapid Reduction Hypnosis
Dr. Palmer's signature method addresses the subconscious associations between alcohol and relief, social ease, numbing, or reward, gently reprogramming the conditioned triggers that make alcohol feel necessary for functioning or comfort.
Integrative Holistic Methods
Recovery from alcoholism means rebuilding every dimension of life: health, relationships, career, identity, and purpose. The program integrates systemic, solution-oriented, and holistic methods, including mindfulness, somatic practices, and Eastern wellness approaches, to support whole-person healing.
Functional Medicine & Nutrition
Chronic alcohol use causes real nutritional deficiencies, liver stress, and neurological effects. The center coordinates with physicians for medical evaluation, nutritional support (including thiamine), and ongoing health monitoring alongside psychological treatment.
Same evidence-based treatment as in-person care.

Comprehensive Alcohol Use Assessment
An assessment explores your drinking history, patterns, and quantity; withdrawal experiences; medical history; co-occurring conditions; relationship and occupational impact; and treatment attempts.
