PRESENTATIONS WE TREAT
EDNOS & OSFED Presentations We Treat
EDNOS and OSFED are broad categories covering a wide range of disordered eating presentations. We treat all of them with the same clinical depth — because every form of disordered eating that causes distress deserves expert care.
EDNOS / OSFED
Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS) — now reclassified as Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED) in the DSM-5 — describes clinically significant disordered eating patterns that don't meet the full criteria for anorexia or bulimia but cause equal distress, impairment, and medical risk.
Atypical Anorexia Nervosa
Meets all criteria for anorexia nervosa — including severe restriction, fear of weight gain, and distorted body image — except that the individual's weight remains in a 'normal' or higher range. Equally serious medically and psychologically, yet frequently dismissed or under-diagnosed.
Purging Disorder
Recurrent purging behaviors — vomiting, laxative use, or excessive exercise — used to influence weight or shape, but without the binge episodes that define bulimia nervosa. The physical and psychological consequences are identical and require the same evidence-based treatment.
Night Eating Syndrome
A pattern of minimal food intake during the day followed by significant overeating in the evening and nighttime hours, often including eating after waking from sleep. Night eating syndrome disrupts circadian rhythms, sleep, and metabolic health, and is addressed within our program.
Food Addiction
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder — extreme selectivity or avoidance of foods based on sensory characteristics, fear of choking or vomiting, or lack of interest in eating — that results in nutritional deficiency, significant weight loss, or significant psychosocial impairment.
Sub-Threshold & Partial Syndrome EDs
Disordered eating patterns — chronic dieting, food preoccupation, body dissatisfaction, and distorted eating behaviors — that fall just below the clinical threshold for a formal diagnosis but still cause significant psychological distress and impair daily functioning and quality of life.
OUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES
6 Evidence-Based Therapies for EDNOS & OSFED
Our strength-based methodology uses evidence-based therapies that work across all eating disorder presentations — addressing the cognitive distortions, emotional patterns, and underlying causes of disordered eating regardless of specific diagnostic category, while clients remain in their real-world environments.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT is highly effective for EDNOS/OSFED because it addresses the underlying cognitive distortions — about food, body, weight, and self-worth — that are present across all eating disorder presentations, regardless of whether they meet strict diagnostic criteria.
Interpersonal Therapy
EDNOS and OSFED frequently emerge from interpersonal distress — relationship conflict, grief, social pressure, and emotional isolation. IPT addresses these interpersonal triggers directly, building the relational skills and emotional connections that support lasting recovery.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
The emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, and distress intolerance that appear across EDNOS presentations respond well to DBT's core skill sets — mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness — creating sustainable behavioral change.
Rapid Reduction Hypnosis
Dr. Palmer's signature method addresses the deep emotional root causes and subconscious belief systems driving disordered eating across all EDNOS presentations — rapidly reprogramming the fear, shame, and limiting beliefs that maintain the disorder regardless of its specific form.
Integrative Holistic Methods
EDNOS and OSFED affect the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. The program integrates systemic, solution-oriented, and trauma-informed methods with Eastern practices including mindfulness, somatic awareness, and energy healing to support comprehensive recovery.
Functional Medicine & Nutrition
Disordered eating — regardless of specific diagnosis — causes nutritional deficiency, metabolic disruption, and physical health consequences. The center coordinates with physicians for comprehensive medical assessment and nutritional restoration alongside psychological treatment.

YOUR RECOVERY JOURNEY
The EDNOS & OSFED Treatment Process
Recovery from EDNOS and OSFED is a structured, compassionate journey tailored to your unique presentation. Here is what to expect from your first call through to long-term, sustained healing.
Free 15-min Discovery Call with Dr. Palmer
Begin with a free 15-minute call directly with Dr. Lisa Palmer. She will listen to your experience with disordered eating, assess your current patterns and needs, and provide initial guidance on the most effective path forward — regardless of whether you have a formal diagnosis.
Comprehensive EDNOS/OSFED Assessment
A thorough assessment explores the full picture of your eating behaviors, emotional triggers, food relationship, body image, and underlying psychological patterns — without requiring your experience to fit into a narrow diagnostic box. You do not need a formal diagnosis to receive expert care.
Individualized Recovery Plan
Together you define clear, achievable goals — specific to your unique presentation. Whether your challenges involve restriction, purging, avoidance, night eating, or sub-clinical disordered patterns, your plan is designed around what you actually experience.
Weekly Sessions: Rebuilding Hunger Awarenes
Because OSFED and EDNOS presentations vary widely — atypical anorexia, purging disorder, night eating syndrome, ARFID, and sub-threshold patterns all look different — each session is structured around the specific behaviors, emotional triggers, and food beliefs relevant to your experience.
Mid-Program Review: Adapting as Your Presentation Evolves
EDNOS and OSFED presentations frequently shift during treatment — as restriction reduces, other behaviors may surface; as purging decreases, emotional eating may emerge. The mid-program review specifically reassesses what is happening now versus what was happening at intake, and recalibrates the therapeutic approach accordingly.
Sustained Recovery: A Lasting Peace with Food
Because OSFED and EDNOS cover such a wide range of presentations, long-term maintenance planning is more individualized here than for any other eating disorder category. You leave with a relapse-prevention framework specific to your patterns — the situations, emotional states, and environmental cues that are highest-risk for your particular presentation
