When work follows you home, into your sleep and into your relationships, it is time for real support. Dr. Lisa Palmer, PhD, LMFT, is a licensed therapist providing work stress therapy in Florida for professionals to recover from job stress, pressure and burnout. See her in person at our Boca Raton office or online from anywhere in Florida.

Work Stress Therapy With Dr. Lisa Palmer:

A work stress therapist is a licensed mental health professional who helps you understand and recover from the strain your job puts on your mind, body and relationships. As a work stress counselor, Dr. Palmer looks past the surface symptoms. She helps you find what is really driving the pressure, calm your nervous system and build a working life you can sustain.

This kind of care is part of our wider stress management therapy in Boca Raton, focused here on one source of stress: your job.

You are far from alone. In the American Psychological Association's 2025 Work in America survey, 54% of U.S. workers said job insecurity had a significant impact on their stress at work. Among workers worried about job security, 42% said work stress made it hard to sleep.

Credentials Behind Your Care:

Your therapy is led by Dr. Lisa Palmer, licensed marriage and family therapist and founder of The Renew Center of Florida.

  • PhD: doctoral-level training in how people think, feel and cope.

  • LMFT: licensed in Florida to treat individuals, couples and families.

  • CHT: trained in clinical hypnosis to calm stress responses and change ingrained habits.

Dr. Palmer is also a national media expert who has appeared on ABC, FOX, CNN, NBC and CBS.

Signs Your Work Stress Needs Professional Support

Everyone has hard weeks at work. Therapy for work related stress can help when the signs below last for weeks, keep coming back or start to affect your health and home life.

Emotional and Mental Signs

  • You feel a knot of dread on Sunday evenings or before every shift.

  • Small problems at work make you irritable, tearful or angry.

  • Your mind races with work thoughts long after you log off.

  • You feel numb, detached or cynical about a job you once cared about.

  • You doubt yourself constantly, even when you are doing well.

Physical Signs

  • You lie awake replaying meetings or wake at 3 a.m. thinking about work. Ongoing sleep problems may also need insomnia treatment in Boca Raton.

  • You get frequent headaches, a tight jaw or stiff shoulders.

  • You feel exhausted even after a full night or a weekend off.

  • Your stomach is upset or your appetite changes on workdays.

  • You get sick more often than you used to.

Signs at Work and at Home

  • You are missing deadlines or making mistakes that are not like you.

  • You avoid emails, calls or certain people at work.

  • You snap at your partner or children after a hard day.

  • You lean on alcohol, food, scrolling or shopping to switch off.

  • You have stopped doing things you enjoy because you have no energy left

Common Causes of Workplace Stress We Treat

As a work related stress therapist, Dr. Palmer treats the stress itself and the situation causing it. These are the problems clients bring to her most often.

Heavy Workload and Long Hours

Endless to-do lists, understaffing and being always reachable leave no time to recover. In therapy, you learn to spot the beliefs that keep you saying yes, such as fear of letting people down. You also build practical ways to protect your time and energy.

Difficult Bosses, Coworkers and Toxic Workplaces

A critical manager, a hostile coworker or a culture of blame can wear you down every day. Therapy gives you a safe place to process what is happening and stop taking it personally. You also practice responses that help you stay calm and protect yourself.

Job Insecurity, Layoffs and Change

Restructuring, layoffs and constant change keep your body on high alert. Dr. Palmer helps you manage the anxiety of not knowing what comes next. Together you plan the steps that are within your control.

Leadership and Business Owner Pressure

Leaders carry the weight of payroll, clients and decisions that affect other people, often with no one to talk to. Therapy offers a confidential space to think clearly, lower the pressure and lead without burning out. Business owners can also explore our therapy for entrepreneurs.

No two jobs or people are the same, so there is no one-size-fits-all plan. Dr. Palmer starts by learning about your role, your workplace and how stress shows up for you. She then combines the methods below into a plan built around your goals, your schedule and the pace you need.

Reality-Based Care That Fits Around Your Life:

Every program at The Renew Center of Florida is reality-based. You keep working, parenting and living your life while you heal. Residential programs and some other treatment options ask you to step away from your job and family for weeks. Our care is built around your work schedule and family commitments instead. You practice new skills in the real situations that cause your stress, so the changes last after therapy ends.

Rapid Resolution Therapy

Sometimes a strong reaction at work is about more than work. A harsh word from a boss can trigger an old hurt or past trauma. Using her rapid trauma resolution training, Dr. Palmer helps your mind release these stuck stress reactions. Many clients find they can stay calm in situations that used to set them off.

Clinical Hypnotherapy for Work Stress

Hypnotherapy uses guided, deeply relaxed focus to reach the patterns that keep you tense. It can help with racing thoughts, trouble switching off and fear of presentations or difficult conversations. You are awake and in control the whole time. Learn more about our clinical hypnosis in Boca Raton.

CBT for Stressful Work Thoughts

Thoughts like "If I say no, I'll be fired" or "Everything has to be perfect" fuel work stress. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps you notice these thoughts, test them and replace them with more balanced ones. See how we use CBT therapy in Boca Raton.

Boundaries and Workplace Communication

Many clients struggle to say no, ask for help or speak up with a manager. In sessions, you practice clear, calm ways to set limits and handle hard conversations. Examples include asking for a realistic deadline, turning off notifications after hours or raising a problem without fear.

Intensive Options for Busy Professionals

Weekly sessions do not suit every schedule. For executives, business owners and high-profile clients, Dr. Palmer offers concentrated formats such as the 360 assessment intensive program. It is a 30-day, whole-person evaluation of what is driving your stress and burnout, with a clear plan for next steps

"I often remind my clients that work stress does not stay at work. When it begins affecting your sleep, mood, focus, or relationships, I encourage you to address it early and give yourself space to recover. — Dr. Lisa Palmer"

Work Stress Therapy FAQs:

What does a work stress therapist do?

A work stress therapist helps you understand and reduce the stress your job causes. Dr. Palmer looks at what is happening at work and how your mind and body are reacting to it. She then uses methods such as rapid trauma resolution, hypnotherapy and CBT to calm those reactions. You also build skills like setting boundaries so you can handle work pressure in a healthier way.

You should see a therapist when work stress lasts for weeks or starts to affect your sleep, health or relationships. Other signs include dreading work every day, feeling numb about your job or relying on alcohol or food to unwind. You do not need to wait for a crisis. Getting support early often makes recovery faster and easier.

Can therapy help with burnout from work?

Yes. Therapy can help you recover from burnout and stop it from coming back. Dr. Palmer helps you understand what led to burnout, restore your energy and change the habits and beliefs that keep you overworking. If you need deeper answers, the 360 assessment intensive looks at the whole picture, including stress, sleep and mood, and gives you a clear plan.

How much does work stress therapy cost in Florida?

The cost of work stress therapy depends on the format you choose, such as weekly sessions or an intensive program. The Renew Center of Florida is a private-pay practice, and we share current fees during your free 15-minute discovery call. Many clients use out-of-network benefits to get part of the cost back. We can provide receipts and documentation for that on request.

Do you accept insurance for workplace stress therapy?

No, we do not bill insurance directly. Many clients use their out-of-network benefits by sending our receipts to their insurance company for possible reimbursement. We are happy to provide the documentation you need. Paying privately also means no diagnosis is shared with an insurer, which some professionals prefer for privacy reasons.

Is online work stress therapy as effective as in-person sessions?

For most people, yes. Online therapy uses the same methods and the same therapist as in-person sessions. Many busy professionals find it easier to stay consistent because there is no commute. Our video sessions are secure and HIPAA compliant. If you are unsure which suits you, Dr. Palmer can help you decide on your discovery call.

Will my employer find out I am in therapy?

No. Your employer is not told that you are in therapy, and nothing you say is shared with your workplace without your written permission. Because we do not bill insurance, no claim goes through an employer health plan unless you choose to submit one. The only limits to confidentiality are a few legal exceptions, such as a serious safety risk.

How many sessions does therapy for work stress usually take?

The number of sessions depends on your situation, your goals and how long the stress has been building. Some clients feel noticeably calmer within the first few sessions, while burnout or deeper patterns can take longer to resolve. Dr. Palmer reviews your progress with you regularly and adjusts the plan. Intensive formats are also available if you want faster, more focused work.

Can a therapist help me decide whether to leave my job?

Yes. A therapist can help you think clearly about whether to stay, change roles or leave. Dr. Palmer will not make the decision for you. Instead, she helps you separate stress-driven reactions from what you truly want, so you can make a choice you feel confident about. Many clients find the decision becomes clearer once their stress comes down.

Do you see clients outside Boca Raton?

Yes. Dr. Palmer sees clients in person at our Boca Raton office, including people from Delray Beach, Deerfield Beach, Boynton Beach and nearby South Florida communities. She also offers online work stress therapy to clients anywhere in Florida, from Miami to Jacksonville. Book a free discovery call to find the option that works best for you.
