MARIJUANA/CANNABIS USE DISORDER TREATMENT
- OUR APPROACH
Why Cannabis Use Disorder Is More Complex Than "Just Stopping"
Many people underestimate cannabis use disorder because the drug is widely perceived as harmless. But for the significant percentage of users who develop dependency, stopping involves real withdrawal symptoms, powerful psychological conditioning, and often the unmasking of the anxiety, depression, or trauma that use has been suppressing. The Renew Center's program addresses all of these dimensions comprehensively.
Personalized treatment addressing your specific use patterns, triggers, and history.
Evidence-based therapies including CBT and DBT proven effective for cannabis use disorder.
Rapid Reduction Hypnosis to reprogram subconscious associations between cannabis and relief.
Individual, group, and family therapy sessions online and in-person.
Treatment for co-occurring anxiety, depression, and PTSD driving use.
Long-term relapse prevention for lasting recovery and restored clarity.

PRESENTATIONS WE TREAT
Cannabis Use Disorder Presentations We Treat
Marijuana use disorder affects individuals differently from daily dependency to cannabis-induced anxiety to co-occurring mental health conditions. We treat the full spectrum with evidence-based, personalized care.
Cannabis Use Disorder
A clinically recognized substance use disorder in the DSM-5 — characterized by compulsive cannabis use despite negative consequences, withdrawal symptoms when stopping increasing use, and significant impairment in daily functioning. Contrary to popular belief, cannabis is addictive for a meaningful percentage of users.
Orthorexia
An obsessive fixation on eating only 'pure' or 'correct' foods that significantly impairs quality of life. While not a formal DSM diagnosis, orthorexia shares the rigidity and anxiety of anorexia and responds well to the same therapeutic approaches.
Daily / Heavy Use & Dependence
Daily cannabis use creates physical and psychological dependency that makes stopping far more difficult than occasional users anticipate. Withdrawal symptoms — anxiety, insomnia, irritability, and appetite disruption — are real and clinically significant, and require structured support to manage effectively.
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
A co-occurring condition marked by obsessive preoccupation with perceived physical flaws. In anorexia, this manifests as a severely distorted perception of body size that persists despite objective evidence, driving continued restriction.
Anorexia with Bingeing/Purging
A subtype involving cycles of severe restriction alternating with binge episodes followed by purging behaviors. Combines the cognitive distortions of anorexia with the behavioral cycles of bulimia, requiring integrated treatment.
Co-Occurring Depression & Anxiety
Anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any mental health disorder, partly due to the high rate of co-occurring depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. The Renew Center's integrated model addresses all conditions simultaneously.
OUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES
6 Evidence-Based Therapies for Cannabis Use Disorder
Our strength-based methodology combines the most effective evidence-based therapies for marijuana use disorder — addressing the psychological triggers, emotional drivers, co-occurring conditions, and neurological recovery process, while clients remain in their real-world environments.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT is the most evidence-supported treatment for cannabis use disorder. It identifies and restructures the beliefs, triggers, and thought patterns that drive cannabis use — including the belief that cannabis is necessary for sleep, creativity, social ease, or stress relief — and builds alternative coping strategies.
Interpersonal Therapy
Cannabis use frequently functions as a social lubricant, isolator, or emotional numbing agent within relationship dynamics. IPT addresses the interpersonal patterns — conflict avoidance, social anxiety, emotional withdrawal — that cannabis has been fulfilling, building genuine relational skills as alternatives.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
DBT provides the emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills needed to manage the anxiety, irritability, and craving discomfort of cannabis withdrawal and early recovery. Mindfulness practices help clients observe urges without acting on them, creating space for choice.
Rapid Reduction Hypnosis
Dr. Palmer's signature method addresses the subconscious associations between cannabis and relief, creativity, relaxation, or social connection — rapidly reprogramming these conditioned responses and removing the emotional dependency that outlasts the physical withdrawal period.
Integrative Holistic Methods
Recovery from cannabis use disorder requires rebuilding a stress management and emotional regulation toolkit that cannabis has replaced. The program integrates mindfulness, breathwork, somatic practices, and Eastern wellness approaches to provide healthy alternatives to cannabis for relaxation and emotional balance.
Functional Medicine & Nutrition
Chronic cannabis use affects neurochemistry, appetite regulation, sleep architecture, and cognitive function. The center coordinates with physicians to support the neurological and physical recovery process — addressing sleep restoration, appetite normalization, and cognitive clarity restoration alongside psychological treatment.
